Good Sunday morning, everyone. After tracking the strong to severe t-storms last night with Meteorologist Danielle Davis, we are looking a lot calmer to start the day out. In terms of what last night’s storms did, we received reports of downed trees, power outages and numerous reports of water rescues from all the rain. In fact, much of southwestern Missouri is still under an areal flood warning until 3 o’clock this afternoon for any residual flooding leading to some issues in low-lying areas. That’s all due to the average of 1.2″ of estimated rainfall with the highest amounts trying to push up to 6 inches.

Looking at our setup for today, the same cold front that brought storms in yesterday evening will be in play once again today as it starts coming in from the west. Fortunately, the upper-level setup isn’t looking ideal for any additional rain chances later today to turn strong or severe.

After the morning rain chances clear out of northern Arkansas, the rest of the late morning and early afternoon look dry with some partly sunny skies eager to return. Once we get into the late afternoon after 3 or 4 o’clock, the front will try to spark some scattered showers and t-storms in the southern Ozarks mainly south of US Highway 60. These will be rain chances that will hold until they move on by 10 or 11 o’clock tonight.

In terms of how much additional rain could fall, we’ll have some spots see another half an inch to an inch under the heaviest rain. While not an immediate concern, we’ll keep an eye on these amounts to see if it could exacerbate any lingering flooding concerns.

As this storm system moves on with skies turning mostly clear overnight, areas that saw quite a bit of rain could see some areas of possibly dense fog to start the Monday morning drive out. Once that clears away, we’ll have mostly sunny skies take us through the rest of the day.

After a dry Monday and Tuesday, an upper-level disturbance clipping the Great Lakes could come close enough to the Ozarks to bring some isolated showers for some late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. For now, any expected rain amounts look very minimal and will only clip the northeastern Ozarks before moving on.

The rest of the week is looking dry with any additional disturbances looking to stay away from the Ozarks. In fact, we may have to wait until after next weekend for a developing upper-level trough to bring in our next best shot for rain. We could have to wait until October 4th through October 7th for those rain chances to come back into play.

As for temperatures, we’ll trend a little cooler for your Sunday. After starting in the 60s this morning, the north wind returning behind the cold front will only let highs top out in the upper 70s this afternoon.

After morning lows near 60° Monday morning, we’ll enjoy a comfortably warm Monday afternoon with highs back near 80°.

The rest of the week ahead shows temperatures staying comfortably warm.

We’ll keep highs in the lower 80s Tuesday through next weekend. Morning lows will certainly feel more like fall as those numbers will stay close to 60° through next week.
