Authorities arrest Polk County man wanted in death investigation; victim identified
POLK COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) - The Polk County sheriff said authorities arrested a man wanted in a death investigation.
Sheriff Danny Morrison says Shane Ellzey was captured in Louisiana around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Authorities arrested him without incident. He faces second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and stealing a motor vehicle charges. A judge set his bond at $750,000.
Investigators identified the victim as Phillip David Thompson. Thompson died from an apparent gunshot wound.
According to the Highway Patrol, around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control to investigate Thompson’s death. Investigators say Ellzey stole Thompson’s 2001 Ford 150 Crewcab.
“It’s possible that he (Ellzey) suffers from some mental disorders. This could have contributed to that,” said Sgt. Mike McClure with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Investigators say Ellzey worked on Thompson’s farm.
